HELP!!! OUR EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM NEEDS IT!

The way education is going in this country is so bad. I taught as a corper and I chose to stay with it for awhile after service to impact the kids. I was surprised that BIOLOGY, which is the only general science course offered by all, isn't compulsory anymore. The CURRICULUM is so bogus and filled with notes and theory that a teacher has no way of properly finishing a course in one term except they just rush the work and the kids wont understand cos all they will be writing is notes upon notes.Now look at the issue of RELIGIOUS STUDIES. I know that all religious studies have been combined into civil education but no! It shouldn't be so. Let's maintain it as it should be. During my time in secondary school, the courses that were alternated are:
* CRK / IRK (depending on your religion)
* Agric/food and nutrition/clothing and textile/visual art (All these made CREATIVITY AND TALENTS develop.)
ECONOMICS was the business course that cuts across all departments. The recent introduction of marketing isn't even needed cos it's a tertiary course and it's basics topics are intertwined with economics.
Courses like the ENGLISH LANGUAGE  needs to be broken down. PHONICS should stand apart and probably be combined with reading. MATHEMATICS too should be broken down. It's too heavy.
Look at the LITERATURE TEXTBOOKS that are being introduced to the curriculum. They have too much of mature contents for the young minds. It's really disheartening. I was a story lover as a kid and I was able to read wide and spread my horizon for reading; thanks to my primary school, my dad and GOOD AUTHORS then. What happened to books like:
* Sugar girl
* Chike and the river
* Folake and her four brothers
* The choice ,e.t.c.
These are books that opened my young mind and expanded my vocabulary alot cos there are words I remember vividly today, which came from the books.
Our MINISTRY OF EDUCATION  needs to do alot of work and if they need help, I WILL GLADLY HELP for free cos our kids of today are fast losing alot of morals and positive outlook. It's killing our societal lives cos we aren't our brother's keepers anymore.
Where are those games and sports that builds team spirit?
We need to revive all these if we really want to build future leaders.
Education is supposed to TEACH and make the kids thirst for more knowledge which will make them research and development.
I have so much to say but let me stop for now.

Kindly help share this post till it gets to them. I'm so heartbroken about our educational system

WE ARE THE CHANGE WE SEEK! OUR ENVIRONMENT SHOULD REFLECT IT!

Several encounters are springing up in my mind as I'm typing this post but to explain better, I will use just an example. I was going out within the week and I boarded a bus. The man sitting in front of me was eating snacks and sipping his drink from a pet bottle. He was well dressed and was quiet. What annoyed me was the fact that he lost the first impression I had about him when he finished his snacks and drink and just threw the bottle, paper and nylon out of the window while the bus is on motion.
I wanted to talk but I realised he's older than me and i might be seen as disrespectful.
this isn't the first time I've seen such but for the fact that its coming from such a man that looks responsible is what baffles me.
When we all seek CHANGE and we are complaining that the government isn't doing anything, i tell people that we are the real culprits cos we are completely over shadowing what the government is doing.
I live in an area where its reputation isn't a good one(MUSHIN) but my orientation makes me and others like me stand out in that environment because we refuse t be affected by what majority of the residents in the area do and we are fighting it by raising a set of young people to set examples too.
I see and know that the drainages in my local government is constantly cleared of dirts and waste that the people drop which causes blockage. These same people, knowing the effects of a blocked drainage, will still drop more after its been cleared. This constricts the free flow of the drainage and the area becomes flooded. they will then start cursing the government.
Charity they say, begins at home so I feel if we want the change we seek, we should initiate it.
Lets learn to keep our environment clean by disposing our waste properly.
I don't drop my waste anywhere and anyhow, i look for a proper place to dispose them. The government should also help by doing regular campaigns and awareness programmes to enlighten people on the dangers of disposing waste anywhere.
KICK AGAINST INDISCIPLINE (K.A.I.) used to help enforce the law against illegal dropping of waste but they have deviated and the only thing I remember when their names comes to mind is just catching hawkers. I feel they've deviated from their proper duties.
I remember also, a time when it was mandatory for every vehicle (especially commercial ones)to have waste baskets in their buses. where have all these laws gone?
we need to bring back some old, forgotten rules that has made us do the right thing.
I want to leave you with this to ponder within the week: Imagine an environment that is free of dirts and waste. You can make it possible.
CHANGE!!!
What do you think?

How do you see Nigeria?

Have you ever dreamt of 'Nigeria' as a place of your dream?
Do you see Nigeria as a crumbling house?
or as a house under construction?
or as a magnificient house?
I slept and dreamt about a 'Paradise Nigeria' and woke up to see the opposite in reality. It gives me cause for concern and i pray that GOD gives me the wisdom to handle the everyday challenges that come my way and in the process, i came up with possible solutions to the challenges we are facing in this country. As from next week, i'll share my weekly experiences on the streets of Lagos with you and i'll tell you the solution i came up with that week if there's any. You will also contribute yours because 'Two heads are better than one'.
I believe that if we all put our heads together against all odds, we'll hold the world power very soon. It's not too late to start and i'm imploring you to join me make Naija a paradise.

One Naija
True Nigerian

WELCOME TO A NEW PHASE OF PHINNY

I almost forgot i started this page years ago to give my opinion and hear from others, concerning solutions to issues affecting our society at large.
I am back for real and i am fully ready to give my opinion on several issues especially the ones that affect productivity in our society at large.  All of it coming from my experiences within the week.
I started with a lot of passions -music, kids and teens, society,entrepreneurship etc. but Ive grown to prioritize them and currently, discovering and grooming artistic talents in kids and teens is my major passion. That doesn't mean Ive abandoned the rest; ive taken time to learn and know more (e no easy to get 2 degrees in your twenties) and i want to positively impact the society with what i have to give.
I welcome you all to this page and i implore you all to contribute your own quota and lets work together to make our society a better one.
I will discuss a topic every week and will let you all contribute and comment till the end of the week.
Meanwhile, i run a Talent Studio for Kids and Teens where artistic talents in music, dance, drama, visual arts and modelling. you can check it out at www.facebook.com/phinnystalentstudio
